    CIIPA and ACFE Cayman Islands invite you to a technical session on Fraud and Forensics followed by networking canapes and drinks.

    This session will provide discussions into fraud and forensic accounting investigations and fraud claims, using real-life case studies.

    Presenters will also dive into computer-assisted tools used in digital forensics and fraud detection used in real-life cases.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Investigation and identification of fraud claims
    • Pursuing the recovery of fraud claims in the context of a liquidation
    • Red flags and techniques for uncovering instances of fraud with discussions on real-life case studies
    • How e-discovery and technology tools were used in the investigation of fraud on real-life case studies

    Sean Theron, Alvarez & Marsal | Sean has more than 19 years of cross border experience in data handling and analysis, the majority of which has been focused on eDiscovery and computer forensics.

    Jason Robinson, Teneo | Jason Robinson has more than 14 years of experience assisting clients in the financial services sector and has played a central role in various cross-border restructuring and insolvency matters. Jason is a CPA of Canada, qualified insolvency practitioner in the Cayman Islands, and a Fellow of INSOL International.

    Description/Overview

    This course will provide updates on the latest accounting developments impacting the insurance industry in Cayman. The panel of speakers will focus on industry trends, key updates to accounting standards , as well as exploring Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and providing an update on the current regulatory environment.

    Speakers:  

    Developments in life and annuity reinsurance and other recent accounting standard updates:  Harvey Gowers, a Director at KPMG Cayman Islands, will provide an overview of developments in the growing life and annuity reinsurance sector in the Cayman Islands, including an explanation of typical reinsurance structures. This session will also provide key accounting considerations for annuity reinsurers, and a reminder of the key upcoming accounting standard changes applicable for 2023 including IFRS 17 and ASC 326.

    Long Duration Targeted Improvements (“LDTI”):  Nicki Angstadt, a Senior Manager in Ernst & Young’s Financial Accounting Advisory Services practice, will provide an overview of the Financial Accounting Standards Board’s (FASB) new Long Duration Targeted Improvements standard, including discussion on its key provisions and implications for financial reporting.

    ESG Update: This session explores the dynamic landscape of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and its implications on financial reporting.

    Regulatory Update: This session will provide an update on recent regulatory changes impacting insurance companies in Cayman.

    Learning Objectives: Insurance update for both industry and audit professionals.
