CIIPA'S STORY

The story began in 1970, when a small group of pioneers in Cayman's accountancy field formed the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants (CISPA). Today, with more than 1,000 members, it is one of the largest professional institutes in the Cayman Islands.  In 2007, the Public Accountants Act and its associated Regulations (the "Laws") ushered in a new era of regulatory oversight for the accounting profession in the Cayman Islands, and the institute was officially incorporated as a Non-Profit.    In 2007 the institute was empowered by the Laws to license accounting practitioners and public practice firms in the Cayman Islands.

Another key milestone was achieved in 2013 when the institute became a full member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), which is the worldwide organisation representing the accountancy profession with over 180 members in over 135 jurisdictions.

In 2016 CISPA officially became an Institute and changed its name to the Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants (CIIPA).   This was an important milestone in CIIPA's journey to reflect the regulatory and educational roles the institute plays in furthering the accounting profession and protecting the reputation of the Cayman Islands.
