Description/Overview: 

The business scandals of recent years have highlighted the importance of ethical behaviour in the accounting profession. The course will begin by introducing CIIPA members to key ethical standards specific to the accounting profession. It will also explain the "conceptual approach" to the ethics adopted by the IESBA Code of the ethics for Professional Accountants. Participants will explore the challenge of flexing our "moral muscle" and review a model of systematic ethical decision-making by covering the elements necessary for making considered ethical choices in everyday business practices. The session will culminate by highlighting the significance of operating in a values driven environment. 

Learning Objectives:

Participants will:

• understand the professional ethics code within the accounting discipline and its fundamental ethical principals
• understand the "conceptual framework" of the professional ethics code
• understand how to apply an ethics model or framework to analyze ethical problems, generate and compare alternatives, and develop a defensible solution
• recognize the importance of a values driven culture in an organisation
