Learning Objectives:

Participants will be better equipped to understand and be prepared for changes in the ever-shifting global and U.S. tax environment. Speakers will cover the most relevant and hottest topics of importance to professionals serving the Cayman Financial Services Sector. 

Description/Overview:

Topics will include:

  1. Current U.S. proposed regulation and legislation surrounding definition changes and bright line tests in the Passive Foreign Investment Company rules and exceptions, particulary surrounding insurance companies domiciled in foreign jurisdictions including the Cayman Islands
  2. Evolution of U.S. Case Law impacting considerations for Risk Shifting and Risk Distribution, which includes the discussion of recent court rulings such as IRS v. Securitas and Rent-A-Center
  3. Short Term Business Traveler tax considerations of traveling in the U.S., Canada, U.K., or abroad, and the increase in enforcement of taxing authorities on foreign workers for conferences, board meetings and other short term work
