Public Practice Firms and Sole Practitioners
Under the Accountants Act (2024 Revision), a relevant sole practitioner and a relevant firm of licensed practitioners are required to register with the Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants (CIIPA).
A registered public practice firm is subject to CIIPA's system of oversight, which includes quality assurance reviews, investigation and disciplinary procedures, and the imposition of conditions or penalties where appropriate.
Registration Requirements
To register as a Public Practice Firm, an applicant must:
- Complete and submit the Public Practice Firm Registration Form; and
- Pay the applicable registration fee.

CIIPA shall establish and maintain a Register of Public Practice Firms. The Register contains prescribed information in respect of each registered firm as captured in the Public Practice Firm Registration Form and subsequent notifications submitted to CIIPA.
Continuing Obligations of Registered Firms
Registered firms are required to:
- Maintain in force professional indemnity insurance coverage;
- Comply with the International Standard on Quality Management issued by the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (or any successor standard adopted by CIIPA);
- Implement and maintain adequate business continuity arrangements; and
- Notify CIIPA within thirty (30) days of any change in managing partner or any change to information previously provided to CIIPA that may affect the firm's ability to meet its continuing obligations.
DNFBP Registration
Public Practice Firms are also required to register with CIIPA as Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professions (DNFBPs) under the Anti-Money Laundering Regulations. Public Practice Firm registration under the Accountants Act does not remove the requirement to complete a separate DNFBP registration. Further information is available on the DNFBP Registration page.
