The Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants has approved its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, establishing the organisation’s priorities for the next five years as it continues to strengthen the accounting profession and support the Cayman Islands’ financial services industry.

View the Strategic Plan here.

Approved by CIIPA’s Council and developed through consultation with the Institute’s Strategic Advisory Group, committees and Council, the plan is built around four strategic priorities: Professional Regulation and AML Supervision; Education, Training and CPD; Membership, Advocacy and Government Partnership; and Governance and Organisational Excellence.

The plan reflects CIIPA’s responsibilities as both a professional body and regulator. Under the Accountants Act (2024 Revision), CIIPA regulates public practice firms and licensed practitioners. It has also served as the Supervisory Authority for firms of accountants under the Cayman Islands’ anti-money laundering framework since 2017.

“This plan will carry CIIPA through an important period for both the Institute and the profession,” CIIPA Chief Executive Officer Sheree Ebanks said. “The Cayman Islands’ standing as a leading international financial centre rests on trust — in our financial reporting, our supervision and the integrity of our professionals. This plan is our commitment to protecting that trust while growing a profession that Caymanians can see themselves in.”

Among CIIPA’s priorities through 2030 are preparations for the Cayman Islands’  2027 CFATF Mutual Evaluation, including maintaining a fully operational risk-based supervisory programme and working closely with government.

The Institute also aims to grow its membership beyond 1,500 by 2029 while expanding pathways into the profession for Caymanians. This includes the AAT Apprenticeship programme and support for candidates pursuing professional qualifications such as the U.S. CPA and ACCA.

Education and professional development will remain a major focus, including CIIPA’s flagship Momentum conference and training covering areas such as artificial intelligence, sustainability and international standards.

The plan also calls for deeper collaboration with government on public financial management and professional development within the public sector, while strengthening CIIPA’s own organisational capacity through initiatives including responsible adoption of AI and a planned relocation to new offices in 2027.

“Our profession continues to evolve, and this plan positions CIIPA to evolve with it,” CIIPA President Laurie Mernett said. “It is about maintaining the high professional standards expected of accountants in the Cayman Islands while creating opportunities for our members, supporting the next generation of Caymanian professionals and ensuring CIIPA continues to provide value to the wider community.”
